The Government Needs Our Help.

As a customer service advisor, on a daily basis I get mission impossible requests from customers. When I attempt to educate them on correct procedures in a respectful manner; the intensity moves to a solid 10 on the Richter Scale. Customers want to then instruct me on how to do my job. I allow my actions and my words to remind them who the professional is. I explain in a language that they can understand, “this is not how it works”. One lady went a bit further one day. “It’s not that complicated. It’s just the push of a button”, she belched.

I want to remind Jamaicans today. This is not how it works. This is not how any of it works. I have heard numerous conversations, read many articles with ‘quick fix’ ideas directed at the Parliament. It is inevitable the Government cannot please everybody. There is no orange or green button in Parliament that the Government can push to rid the island of the virus immediately, it will take some time. This is not a magic trick! Though it seems like a continuous nightmare, that we are unable to wake up from. This is our current reality.

I believe that the Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness is doing his best to curtail this virus. This does not mean that I agree with all his decisions but I understand the predicament that is steering boldly in his face.

Two hundred and eighty -eight (288) cases later, we all need to realize as Jamaicans that this is not a problem for the Government to fix. The Government can do so much and no more. This is not about politics. Whether you are affiliated with the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) or the People’s National Party (PNP), it doesn’t matter.

The corona virus is not accepting bribes or soothsayings. It will not go away quietly. If this were a fairy tale we would wish the virus off to ‘Never Return Land’ and live happily ever after. But that’s not going to happen. We are all at risk. It is our responsibility to do our part to mitigate this virus.

This means:

  • Stay Home when possible.
  • Practice Social Distancing.
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Sanitizing your environment regularly, especially frequently touched surfaces.
  • Eating a balanced diet and taking vitamins to build your immune system.

Most importantly for those of us who are spiritual or religious, we need to pray without ceasing. So the Lord will grant us peace, guidance, protection, divine favor and heal our land.

This is so true. This is something I have always observe; everyone is looking to the government to work magic and no one is willing to do their part.

I agree that the government may have allowed some things to fall through the cracks here and there in our battle with COVID-19 but for the most part if we the citizens were joining our efforts in the fight we would be better able to contain the virus.

Great work, keep it up

Praying without ceasing is something we should not take for granted ever but especially during this season. Thank you for your insight on this subject.
